you have to face the fact that PC is better than consoles and knowing PC spec is basic knowlage.
Point in hand. How does owning a PC solved this persons xbox problems?

Owning PC for 2 weeks or 3 is more than enought to know what is your PC spec.
I think some people would rather enjoy getting something which will instantly play games instead of learning a few specs, but whatever.

Also games for pc are cheaper than for xbox or ps3. You still save some money.
PORTAL 2 - STEAM VERSION: £19.99
PORTAL 2 - CONSOLE VERSION: £19.99 (incl. free delivery)
Unless you're buying from an online store, any high street store is going to be selling games for a high price. Right now, I could walk to my local game shop and find a copy of The Orange Box on PC for about £30, despite it being an old game and with Team Fortress 2 being available for free on the steam store anyway.
any game is going to be expensive unless you wait until the price on it drops.
Although I never notice much price difference, I rarely buy games new and the most I've probably paid for a new game is around £35.
