You're welcome.
Thank you for your quick reply. I'll try to report any bugs or ideas that i get over time. You just do as you please with thoses and keep up the good work!

---

It's about the traps. They seems to "Capture" animals after a few days. Which is fine. What's bothering me is i don't know what animal is inside before releasing it. One time i found a parrot inside, which is weird since it's a "Ground" trap. Another Time i released a claw monkey, which almost killed me. Didn't expect that at all.

Maybe you could add a text pop up that says something like. "The trap has captured X animal. Would you like to release it?

---

About the net, it seems if we capture the bugs, they don't count toward our hunter skills. Why not add a "Bug catcher" level system? As you progress in levels, when capturing a bug with the net increase the chance to succeed and also higher level increase the bugs (item) received.

---

My chickens are all next to a Coop, which i haven't used at all so far. Took me a while to find some seeds to plants, which i plan to grow soon. None of them are idles, maybe i need to add seeds to the Coop first?

---

I like the idea of the handtorch producing light as long as you have it equipped. The problem is the handtorch only last a single minute. How about having a window pop up that ask you how many minutes you would like the torch to last and it would consume 1 cotton/wool per minute?
Could make it last 5 minute maximum per torch or something.

---

Could it be possible to add a water animation to the water through when it does containt water? (I play on lowest graphic settings by the way)

---

This is a longshot but i'll say it anyway. How about every island on normal or hard mode to have a Village full of Natives? Would be extremely dangerous to get close to them. They cold have a few pallisades, a door, 2-3 houses and maybe a chest of some sort with uncommon loot. Natural ressource should not spawn inside the village. Village could explain why thoses natives are on the island on the first place, instead of just randomly spawning. They could get out of the villages to hunt for food during the day and go back at night.

That's all for now. Ideas are nice but i also know it's just gonna give you that much more work to do. Sorry ^_^"

hey lonely thanks again...

I will consider all you have posted as we move forward...

you should be able to up your graphics a bit, as the mod was optimized this update. At least up them so you get a little level of detail...its much nicer.

If you drop a captured chicken or rooster near a coop they will remain idle (stay, although they still animate and move a tiny tiny bit...not enough to get away.) If the coop has no feed there is a random chance your fowl starve and die (via message).

The hand torch is realistic as it is...you would in real life have to hurry and reload/relight a torch lit with cotton as a fuel. it also is very easy to make for a quick 1 minute light source. However that is where the Oil Lantern will be appreciated once built...sort of a reward in putting effort into making one. Once lit, it will stay lit for the duration of an entire night...it puts off even more light then the hand torch...and you can wield a weapon while holding it...and it is rain-proof!

I could however see making a new additional combo...if you combine the 1branch+cotton AND +1oil...it would stay lit longer yes? Like 3 minutes?

and yes the next update will show water in the trough(only for a minute) if you add a bottle of water to water crops...the watering of crops uses the water right away so you dont see water in the trough. Now it only shows water if it rains filling the trough....thats because a trough holds about 5-6 bottles when raining.

you only need to add water to the trough when it is empty AND your crops turn solid black in color.

thank you for your important input...will consider other stuff, as im close to the end game and finishing the mod once and for all. (see: To-Do list page 1)

I'm a casual player, and I just realized how difficult your game is. Now, I know that some people love the realism of getting hungry and thirsty every minute, with every action (ex: after punching bushes, and getting water, you're already half thirsty, and then the water doesn't help much), but, for the people that like casual gameplay, could you dumb down the food and water intake, and the amount of energy spent in every action, or make the food and drinks restore more energy? And then add this as a menu option, or just as a separate download?
Thanks

This is true, nothing has change. If you start over from scratch you can't pass 2-4 days. You can barely survive the first 3 days and that is if you are lucky and don't get food poisoning as you drink some water (from the leaves) or eat the bread you have when you start on normal mode. I have finished 2 times Stranded II in adventure mode, I have read all the guides and watch all the videos on youtube (no one recorded this mode more then 1-2 days) as it is impossible to live unless you bring saves from previous version. You spend more energy and get more hungry and thirsty as you try to gather the leaves for example...and a bottle of water dosen't restore half of it. Please spend one hour and start the the game from scratch on normal mode, if you can make it more then 3-4 days please let me know, and I will never play a survival game ever! I think some fresh water should be on the normal mode map as you start. There is no realism if you can't find a source of fresh water in the first 3-4 days.

Rahan & Andrew,

survival 101:
1) The most important thing to do first in a survival situation is acquire a source of water and a container to put it in so it can be boiled to kill bacteria...or if you drink it without boiling it, you risk the chance of getting sick and dieing eventually anyway.

This is #1 because in 99/100 it is the hardest thing to do, and you can die in 7 or less days without water, but live 30+ days without food.

2) A source of food...but without water you should not eat, unless it is an item that provide "thirst" relief additionally.

3) A Fire and Shelter from the elements.

4) Live until you can escape or get rescued. (still under development, coming soon)

-------------------------------------------

Your first day on the island would be difficult in real life...but normal mode gives you a "starting load-out" and less hostile animals...if you want to start out with a higher chance of available water sources every new map, additionally.
----------------------------------------------
I will however provide a list of possible options here, for over coming the beginning days...and have drinkable water asap.

1) Always make a Kinife and Stone Hammer at the first tree get branches and the first rock get stone. Combine the branch+stone. Set the knife to the 1 key by clicking it and hitting the 1 button...set the hammer to button 2. Roll your mouse wheel to switch/equip them ingame.

2) Find the nearest Vine tree or Vine dead stump. (they have vines hanging from them). Beat on it with your FISTS so you dont use more energy and collect 15 Vines.

3) There is a high probability you have some leaves now too from beating the tree for a few branches to make the tools, and the Vine trees for Vines. Beat on a few leafy plants now and collect 30 leaves total.

You now have possibly 2 bottles of water...vine+stone and leaves+stone...you just need something to put it in.

4) While doing all the above, kill the first Turtle you see always near the shores(to acquire a bladder/bottle), or the first animal that might have a skin to make a Water Skin. (skin+vine=Water Skin-bottle)

5) While doing all of the above, pick every eatable mushroom and fist every snail for slime...you would also have Bark at this point...Click Bark in your rucksack and the USE button to "search it" for insects and slime. Eat all this at will to keep your bars low.

6) Plan on spending the first night un-sheltered (unless you find a Cave) and repeat the process above until you get a campfire built...cook the meat you got from the Skin Animal you killed to make a bottle. Boil the water you have and eat charcoal from the campfire, for sickness if your poisoned from drinking unboiled water.
-------------------------------------------------
When your exhaustion bar is maxed you should have enough food and water to lower them after sleeping 9 hours to lower your exhaustion bar (purple bar)...or eat a handful of sugar. (if you do not sleep you do not wake up hungry and thirsty, you have more time to do stuff and use less of your food water)

Day 2 Almost full health (full if you found a cave for shelter, good for covering fire too...or ate sugar and stay awake all night.) and all bars are very low. Repeat all of the above and work on sheltering your campfire, and getting more bottles. (shelter you sleep under too or take damage from elements...sheltered you get an increasing health bonus added...longer you live the higher it gets, not very useful at the start tho. Some foods add small health bonus too.)

-------------
Other things to consider:

Always settle and camp near a banana tree, coco tree, or some other fruit bearing plant/s...as it blooms you can eat from it/them. grapevine? berry bush? tomato?

Sheep provide Milk and Coconuts Provide milk...2 alternative sources of water/thirst relief...find those bladders and skins for bottles, Day 2.

Hitting baby Bamboo gives ample sugar, sugar can reduce your exhaustion bar when eaten...of coarse. This lets you stay awake longer to finish that campfire or shelter the first few nights. You can build more in a shorter time because your not having to sleep and raise your bars after sleeping. (also conserves what water and food you have, not sleeping is good at the start.) You should not sleep well your first few nights anyway. For real.

A bird nest, or eagle nest, gives eggs in loot. Eggs only need a fire to cook them (egg+use at a fire). Reduces thirst too.

Water from a Water Rock can get you sick...If you cut a log with your knife into Short Handles, and make an Empty Bucket asap...you can drink from a empty bucket without getting sick because you KNOW it is fresh rain you captured. Reducing thirst...just has to rain tho.

Shells and Star Fish are eatable and can sustain you for a few days if you stay along the coast and go around the Island the first couple days completing the tasks above. Chances are you'll find Turtles too(bladders/bottles). Reduces thirst too...eat the Starfish and USE the shells to find slim/clams...just like searching bark...only clams are great food.

Fisting flies, spiders, dragon flies, and butterflies is all food sources, providing some amount of thirst relief too.

The first day of rain you should have a few buckets sitting around to catch water...it is way less exhausting then beating a rock 50 times to make a water rock. (1 bucket per day...by day 3, 3 buckets...thats if you find cotton or sheep to make chord)

Realize Boiled Water is not the only cure to flashing thirst bars...click your food items and view their descriptions for -Thirst statistics. there is really a ton of stuff around to eat for days...death will usually fall to taking damage from hostiles, rather then dieing of thirst or hunger...but yes...Hard mode is very Hard. Some players here tell me it is still to easy though too.

-----------------
The tips above are still only SOME ideas and SOME resolution to surviving...I post them here for all interested and hope they help you on hard mode...There are still some game changers coming in the future, but in the end I hope you find the game challenging and fun...because EVERY map is different...Every season will yield different scenarios from drought to freeze...and each new game will yield new unique experiences that will make your next game easier...and hopefully more fun.

Thank you for your input Rahan...I hope something above can help you get through the first few days on hard/normal...On hard mode, It takes me about 10-14 days of hell before suddenly I feel like I stand a chance at life on a Island full of hostile creatures, and I know that DEATH is around every corner...Be brave my son...and good luck on your journey

P.S. O yeah! Sometimes it is also useful to make bamboo spears (bamboo+rock) at the start too...they are very helpful killing small game without me having to run after them upping my bars. Awsome for killing fish too right on the coast...raw fish is not that bad until you can cook it on a campfire Day 1 or early morning Day 2.

The first 3 days in hard mode are the hardest. That's for sure. Once you start fishing and cook everything you catch then you will never starve to death. Thirst can still be a problem, just find thoses sheeps and gather them near your camp. Every day they produce milk and wool.

Avoid any humans enemies. You can easily 1 VS 1 Archer natives if you are full HP and have a knife. Just go berserk on them, they will die before you, grab their potion and heal back. Free bow and arrows too.

Fishing is so handy, you may catch turtles, crabs, fishes, empy bottles, bendables branches. I suggest taking big meat and cutting them in two small parts. Then cook thoses, it will increase your cooking skills faster.

I really recommend making a map as soon as you have the material and mark every spot for every single ressource you find while exploring.

Don't be afraid early on to make a slingshot and use it to kill birds. It take some time to get used to the range of the slingshot. Keep the feathers, cook the meat. When possible make a bow, use the feather to make arrows then stone arrows. Once you have a lot, you can take on claw monkeys or even a lion.

Also very important early on in game, do not waste your actions on things you don't need. If you want to make a fire and you need 10 branches then get 10 branches. Building doesn't increase your thrist or hunger. Standing still either.

After a week or so, you might notice crates near the shores of the island, break them with an axe or an hammer, they always containt 1 item. Generally food and in a good amount.

Avoid exploring at night. Particulary if you're low on HP and have barely any weapons to defend yourself. One moment you think you're fine, then you take 3-4 steps forward a banana tree you just found and the next moment, there's a native in your back killing you.

Once you feel safe with your food/drinks supplies. Work your way toward making an iron hammer. That is literally your best early game Tool/weapon. (knife still make enemies bleed on hit). It deal more damage, attack fast. You can even use it to take down palm trees near the shore to get easy logs until you can make an axe.

You should always value your food/drinks above anything else. If you don't have any, search/hunt or fish for some.
Then when you get a nice amount to last a few days you can work on other things, building, crafting, etc.

Also JJ is right. Empty bucket early on is a life saver. Try to have at least one up as soon as possible. Could also hit a stone 50 times if you notice the weather is turning into rain. Then it's worth the trouble.

Well that's how i usually do it. Have fun!

Well, first off all I want you to know that I really admire your work. You put a lot of time in this project and just for the fact you come here to replay to everyone is more than enough.

I own 3 survival websites myself (one of them is http://allselfsustained.com) and when it comes to survive is not a game. It seams like there is problem with my game then.
I have downloaded the 6-2-14 and extract it (in a new folder) then start it from The_Survivalist.exe. Now, I have never see a cave, or milk. All I get is wool from the sheep's. The game always generates almost the same map, more or less....never found a cave.

And is the first time I hear about buckets, this can make the game a lot more easier. Oh, one more thing...when it comes to survival sleeping is very important to maintain a healthy state of mind in any given situation.
And just to understand me better here is an article I found that explains Why we need to sleep and at the end of the article there is a link with "Consequences of Insufficient Sleep". Why do we sleep it is a good read. Thank you for your time

For the milk from the sheeps. You need to go into your rushshack. Select the empty bottles, Press the T key to take the item into your hands and then aim at the sheep and press E. (Depending on certain items, it could be R or clicking.) Just test it out. If the sheep has milk, it will fill one bottle and a green message will appear. If it's empty then a red message will appear. Generally they produce 1 serving of milk a day and can stock up to 4...I think.

same way you can take branches into your hands then aim at a filled up bucket of water to turn normal branches into bendables ones. Of course that will consume some of the water that is inside the bucket.

Cave aren't necessarily common, I always play on hard mode/big map and i don't see them often.

As for sleeping i agree, it should be necessary sooner or later. Using sugar just make the game even easier. But still, it's only a game. Doesn't have to be 100% realistic. else we could just make a raft in a day, gather some food and escape by ourselves. lol

sweet!!! I love survival sites and tv shows.

every map has 1 cave on it "somewhere"...every map.

Sheep milk- equip bottles and E button on the sheep for milk. Any other equip you get the wool.

also note: If you choose med/large Hills maps, it seems to generate the most unusual maps and different maps. I like the hills though they are diverse every new map.

also: Check out the Diary ingame, and click the "tabs" Crafting/Operations anytime...you will see a huge amount of information about important operations...including the Empty Bucket... and list of most all possible combinations.

HAHAHA! I do plan to have something relating to sleep...like if you do not sleep for 48 hours your vision will start getting blurry or you may start shaking.(screen shake).

EDIT: Wow nice site Rahan...love your site. I will read up on your info there, looks very interesting to me.

Nice article on sleeping too. I have always thought #2 Restorative Theories that we heal when we sleep.

Can someone Please!!! help! I have 2 water springs already, but I have no idea how to build a water pump. I can't find anywhere in the diary how to build it. What materials do I need, is there a skill requirement?? I've also found a bug when using a hammer with gold nugget on anvil. I used 3 on the anvil, they turned into coins up I couldn't pick them up. I even destroyed everything and they're just floating in mid air. Thx in advance !!

Data485,

you found a bug i created this last update. The forge must be lit to retrieve the gold coins off the anvil. Sorry about that...i fixed it for the next update.

I will post a new update with any fixes in a couple of days...the script is checking for a fire near, so make a torch near the floating coins and light it...then collect the coins. My bad!

if you would have lit your forge you could have picked them up...that is a bug tho.

The Water Pump you build at a under ground spring rock when you find one with your shovel. (just like building a grill over the campfire) Choose your hammer and right click to look at the Water Pump in your build menu, and it will show what you need to build it. Choose it and build it ON the spring rock...like the grill over a fire. If the water pump is not in your build menu, then you need to build a Water Trough first to unlock it in the menu.

oh...it probably is possible...but transferring packets of information across the net takes a completely different set of skills then scripting a mod like this. I have yet to learn how to do such skill...transferring packets and unpacking them on a server, where 2 or more players can interact in the environment, when connected to the server.

I would love to see that with this mod too...but I simply do not know how to do this..."yet".

eh...you destroyed the coal fuel deposit...you will have to build a new forge.

I edited the script and raised it's health some so players do not destroy it unintentionally. I also made it so it gets a daily health boost to regenerate damage each day, to ensure it's not destroyed.

not really a bug, but it's health was set to low...sorry my bad.

I have done this edit with all important objects now for next update. You'd have to beat on them for a while now to destroy them.

Hey I have a suggestion that may help... Allow the Rabbits and/or squirrels to drop skin or parts of it, to combine into a whole skin, maybe with a chord? Just found it difficult to find skin as I just started an island with only 2 sheep and monkeys, both which I needed skin off. I find sheep too hard to breed (Maybe thats just me hehe), also is there a way to breed monkeys? There also seems to be no way to get clay once it runs out, maybe a prospect ability? Just a few suggestions, thx !!
