Hi, I've been following The Survivalist for a long time, though this is my first post to back you up. To do that I would like to report few bugs, and make some suggestions:

1. As MystBunny said, bats drop WAY too much meat (or are too easy to kill). I would change drop rate to 1 per bat, and increase their HP, so they would not get killed by pebbles shot with slingshot. OR (if it can be done) change drop rate to about 20-40%.
All i do right now is standing all day by a grill, cooking the meat. Then i see "BATS" and i think "oh noes, more meat is coming..."

2. Bears and lions are too easy to kill in a melee fight (their attack range is too short), though it is just a suggestion. Don't know what other players think about this.

3. When i got the message that my iron hammer broke, only my stone hammer disappeared.
Few updates ago same was for Fly rod/Fishing rod, though i don't know what's the status right now.

4. Making whey form sheep milk doesn't give bottle back (not even after processing whey to cheese). I think that making whey should give you a bottle back and taking away cooking pot. After processing whey to cheese, you would have that cooking pot back.

5. I CAN'T GET MY COOKIES!!! Have to dismantle the grill.

6. Prospecting doesn't increase hunger/thirst/exhaustion bar. I know that prospecting is already difficult because of low chance to find, but i think it shouldn't be effortless.

7.
Dlean J has written
(about bow animation)
It should be:
Start loop
• Raising bow
• Aim
• Attack
Repeat

So it'll be easier to evade, runaway or something

Yes, but if this would be implemented same has to be done for the player.

8. Last time when i was cruising with my sailraft i suddenly broke my leg... Though i don't know what the cause may be and thus where the bug may be located...

btw. GREAT JOB! Hope you'll continue developing even after release of Stranded III

Ah, speaking of prospecting, I had my mining over 200 and grinded my digging over 200 (with LOTS of super foods and coffee) and it still takes days usually to find water or ores. Gotta bring that prospecting rate up.

Myst: I will check out the prospecting scripts...i do not recall it taking so long to find ore rocks, or underground springs. Stand in 1 spot and repeat prospecting, shouldn't take that long...or it's just "dumb luck".

I touched up a few stats on hostile units for the next update. Like the bats now give 1 meat instead of 2 and gave them a bit more health. Increased the melee attack distance a bit on hostiles, and the lion speed a little faster.

Yeah it does this to me every time. I spend about 3 days doing nothing but checking my bownets and prospecting and find nothing. Of course, that's with low digging skill and 200 mining, so I increased my digging skill to 200 this time around and still found nothing for 2, 3 days.

Heh, I have a feeling in the next update, I'm going to have to choose between the jaws of a lion and the jaws of a shark a few times. OM NOM NOM NOM

How about having chicken coop consume wheat, corn and insects. If there is no feed birds do not stay put producing eggs and chicks.

Snakes, scorpions and insects in general should pop up like bird shit in spring. Hey, btw, pls introduce mice and rats, those are key.

Lions faster yeah, and monkeys too.

Note: when producing 10 bottles with clay, it counts as only one for skill.

Ah yes the chickens are also not working for me. I built a pen for my sheep and chickens, placed a rooster and two hens in the pen, and I eventually got another chicken, but there are no eggs to be found. I remember you suggesting to look under the hens before, so I used the net on one that stopped moving, but no eggs there either.

I also have problems with chickens. Have 2 roosters and 2 hens, waited 2 seasons (summer and fall) and still no young ones. Also - no eggs.
It would be cool, to do it like this: hens would be like sheep - they would have its storage that holds eggs. If you would take the egg from a hen, it will lay another egg the next day (only if near chicken coop (or coop filled with grain/insects, as suggested Aedolaws)). If you woldn't take the egg, a young chick would spawn after few days of hatching.

Hmmm... how about making hostile creatures attack your livestock? Bats would be more vicious or it would be too much?

ok, i just found out about a few days/weeks back. how do i download this game and mod, how much memory does this new s2 mod take up, and are there more animals (like the rhino)?

rikie, you can download this MOD from the first post on this thread. It is a self-contained full latest version. Just download, extract, and play.

Not much memory would be my guess.

There are a few new animals (as opposed to vanilla SII), but no rhino.

ralph,Adoelaws:

yes i like both ideas. I will re-script the chickens and coop. They SHOULD work like the sheep, your right. I will make it so you collect the eggs from the chickens inventory, and the chicken will only produce eggs if you put some chicken-feed(grain+corn) in the coop as feed. If you do not collect the egg from the chicken it will spawn a baby chiclet after some amount of time, while deleting the egg being held in the chicken's inventory.

I managed to survive the first day on hardmode, though with low health from arrows eagles, and other things. The next day I went looking for a healing herb, and encountered a claw-monkey. I had already stabbed it with the knife the day before, so my plan was to hop into a tree and wait for it to die. Was almost to the tree, *tick, dead* X( tick's gotta go.

I've been playing this mod for a solid week and I can't get enough of it. I started on easy, just to get the hang of it, and now I'm on normal. I'm having plenty of fun but I've come up against something that's determined to ruin my day. I can't seem to add coal dust to my iron to make steel. I've read through every post that mentions anything about steel, but I still can't make it. I've even sat in front of the forge for ages, clicking away with the coal dust in my hand.

Am I missing something? Is the game broken? Am I just blind/stupid?

Please help.

Many thanks for making a good game into a great one The standard game was a little too weak for my tastes, but this is awesome.

Side note: It would be nice if we could modify structures once we've built them. Imagine being able to adapt any part of any main structure, using any item that you could find in the surrounding environment? From making jumping platforms to covering the outside of your wooden house with flowers and berries, it would add a fairly deep level of customisation to the game. We could also add to the overall size of our homes so that we could fit more in.

I know it would be a lot of work to implement, but I had the idea and I thought I'd share it, just in case

EDIT: From hours of searching, plus a lot of trial and error, I'm still coming up with nothing except that people keep mentioning my iron shoud be "red hot". This doesn't happen. I've been through every post in this thread and I'm still stumped

I tried both. Left-clicking gives me the "I cannot do that" message, right-clicking just does nothing. What am I missing here? I put the iron in the forge, it heats up and goes soft, I equip the coal dust, then what?

I have the latest update so it should be as simple as right-clicking one the iron once it goes soft, shouldn't it?

I've reached a point where not being able to craft steel is holding up my overall progress. Very frustrating.

If it turns out that I'm missing such an obvious step, I'm gonna slap myself so hard...

Once the iron heats up and turns red, you click (I forget which click though, not the one that says "that does nothing" I'm sure.) with the coal dust in your hand. It's not very accurate though. You have to click on, around, to the side of, above, and below the ore until you hear the "pshh" as when your food finishes and you'll see it change to soft steel.

Oh, and make sure it's coal dust and not a coal nugget.

put the coal dust in your hand...sprinkle it on the red hot iron in the forge by right clicking your mouse, while pointing at the red-hot iron in the forge. You have to be right up on them in the forge, don't stand far away.

coal nugget+stone or hammer=coal dust

i will check the diary for any instructional errors under OPERATIONS for the forge/steel. If you figure out what your doing wrong please share, so i can edit the instructions to help others overcome your same dilemma?
